Because She is Carolyn Kennedy, That’s Why!

Have you um heard you know um this AP interview with you know Carolyn um Kennedy where um she you know discusses her um quest for the um you know New York Senate seat and why she is um you know um qualified? And they said that Sarah Palin gave lousy interviews! Wow. Where is the outrage over Kennedy’s inane answers much less her rambling unprofessional dialogue?

As painful as it is to listen to Kennedy talk, it is even worse when you read her interview. Perhaps that is why I couldn’t find a transcript of it anywhere on the internet. So I did it myself. But it was well worth transcribing Carolyn Kennedy’s words of wisdoms from this rare interview. Perhaps now it is understandable why she doesn’t give interviews although reading this will make you wonder about those books she has “written”. Anyway, here is the transcript of an interview from potentially the next Senator of New York:

“You know I think really um this is sort of a unique moment both in our you know
in our country’s history and in in in you know in my own life. And um you know
we are facing you know unbelievable challenges uh our economy, you know health
care, people are losing their jobs here in NY obviously um particularly you know
families are hurting, education is tough um and so um you know um for me um I’ve
grown up here, I’ve lived here all my life, I love New York and and um {pause}
you know I’m going into politics is something that people have asked me about
forever. Even when I first just thought it in my own mind, you know I got you
know people come up to me on the street, on the subway and just this morning
walking over here on the subway and um you know they are like go for it you know
we are rooting for you. Somebody dropped off 200 signs at my husband’s office
two weeks ago uhm and so you know I thought well ok I really ought to take this
seriously this is really an incredible opportunity and um and you know there are
issues I really care about that are going to come up now. I, I come into this
thinking I have to work twice as hard as anybody else and this is nobody is
entitled to anything and certainly not certainly not me and um there are many
qualified people in this and so um you know I I am an unconventional choice I
understand that. I haven’t pursued the traditional path but I think that um in
our public life today you know we are starting to see that there are many ways
into public life and public service and its not um as you know all our
institutions are less um hierarchical than they use to be and so you know I
think that you know I bring you know my life experiences to this and you
know that includes um you know being a mother um you know I understand sort of
those choices women make that includes being a lawyer and written seven best
selling books you know two on the constitution um you know anthologies about
American history, and values, political courage, you know and I’ve really tried
to encourage people to go into public service.”
Oh silly me! Of course I now understand why she should be selected as the next Senator of New York! If somebody drops off a couple of hundred signs then I suppose that you have to run, right? As for her qualifications, she has clearly thought through why she should be Senator. Well, maybe not. But let’s be fair to her. How could she possibly have known that somebody would actually ask her to explain why she should have that Senate seat? What nerve! She is Carolyn Kennedy and if she says she wants something then she gets it! And now she has decided to “serve the public” which I suppose is her version of noblesse oblige by helping the little people of New York. So stop asking her silly questions about being qualified and take back those ridiculous requests about her financial statements and give her the Senate seat she demands. For she is royalty and if you don’t know that, Ms. Kennedy and her liberal political and journalistic sycophants certainly do! Groveling may be optional but give her the NY Senate seat as she demands and no more questions!

(And if you can’t believe she comes across as stupid and vapid as the above dialogue suggests then hear her for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W85XJADEHxU&feature=mpt%3Atop_stories )

Merry Christmas

Just a quick message to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. This is the time of year to set aside politics and simply enjoy being with your family - even if they are Democrats (ok, or Republicans!). For the next few days try to forget about those annoying left wing liberals and right wing conspiracies and savor the turkey wings instead. So stop the debating and political arguments and may your holidays be peaceful and filled with silent nights. Merry Christmas!

Short Retort

Wonderful video by Fred Thompson on how America should "Spend Itself into Prosperity". His lecture on our economy is very funny or perhaps bitter sweet might be the better description. To find out how we got to this point, the solution and what you can do just watch this video: http://blip.tv/file/1528079

Senate for Sale

I feel sorry for New Yorkers. It seems as if they are destined to be represented by very famous people who are completely ignorant about their state, their needs, their problems. Hillary Clinton never lived in that state nor had she had any experience governing or politicking for herself until she decided she wanted to be the NY Senator. Was she a good Senator? I have no idea. Maybe she did use her name and power in her party to get some perks for her state. But no matter how much she traveled when she ran for the Senate she is still not a real New Yorker and doesn’t understand or love that state as would someone who actually lived there.

Now Carolyn Kennedy has decided she wants to take Hillary’s seat when junior Senator Clinton becomes Madame Secretary of State. Carolyn’s uncle was once the Senator of NY but he was never a real New Yorker either. It makes you wonder about New Yorkers (ok I have always wondered about anyone who chooses to live there). Anyway, I wonder why they keep voting for somebody who moved to their state last week and declared they want to be the next Senator from New York.

Yes Ms. Kennedy has a name with star power but she has even less experience than Hillary had when she ran for that seat. I heard that Carolyn said that because she recently turned 50 and had worked with her uncle Teddy on Obama’s election she has now decided that wants to go into politics herself. So she just moved to NY and declared that she wants to be the next Senator in NY. Wow. I can’t help but feel sorry for all the hard working NY politicians who thought that they have earned the right to be named and now their dreams have been shattered in one day.

In both NY and Illinois the Governor has complete freedom to fill their respective empty Senate seats. The Illinois Governor is facing all kinds of criminal charges for trying to sell his empty seat to the highest bidder. The NY Governor is now faced with having a living icon, Carolyn Kennedy, stating that she wants him to name her as the next NY Senator even though she has never lived there nor has any experience. (Ironically I can’t help but wonder what the Illinois Governor would have done if faced with this decision.)

It is bad enough for an outsider to move to NY just so they can be in the Senate. But in Hillary’s case she earned that seat as the people of New York decided they wanted this foreigner with name power to be their next Senator and voted her to be their Senator. But in this current situation Kennedy would be named by the Governor and not elected by the citizens of the state. That just doesn’t seem right even if she has a mega watt name. As somebody quipped, Brittany Spears has a famous name, too, but you wouldn’t want her in Congress.

When a Senate seat becomes open in the middle of the term, we need to come up with a better way of filling it instead of letting the Governor pick whomever he wants. Neither pay to play nor having your Daddy’s name should be the criteria for selection but I am not sure what the alternative is. In Illinois, the Republicans are clamoring for a special election but this will cost a great deal of money. Perhaps the seat should be given to the person the leaving Senator beat in their party’s primary. Or maybe the State Senate should vote on a replacement as they are supposed to represent their district’s best interest. I am not sure of the solution but anything has to be better than the current situations in Illinois and New York.

Intoducing Lorena Mae

I am very happy to announce the start of a new blog; Lorena Mae at http://mslorenamae.blogspot.com/.

I grew up reading Erma Bombeck and have always wanted to try to write a column in the same vein as hers. Unfortunately, as my brother once pointed out, unlike Bombeck's mother and housewife persona, my life is more like the one found in Bridget Jones's Diary with a strong dose of Dr. House's personality. Too true. So all I can say is that my new Lorena Mae blog will be where I can write about anything other than politics. And don't worry, I will continue PC Fugitive for even after the election there appears to be a never ending supply of political and business stories! Links to each blog are at the right side of both pages.

Both blogs are now available at http://www.hypocrisy.com/. If you haven't been there recently you need to visit it as the site is growing by leaps and bounds. Lorena Mae will be featured in the Women's Voices - she's the one in the purple hat! PC Fugitive is in the main line up as well as in the Conservative section. I hope you will enjoy both PC Fugitive and Lorena Mae. Thank You!

No News is Bad News

We are currently in the biggest recession in decades. The jobless rate is the highest in a quarter of a century. The car industry is failing and the stock market is fluctuating wildly. We just elected the first black president who is in the process of picking his Cabinet and key staff. The Governor of Illinois is selling off Obama’s empty Senator’s seat. Not to forget we are still at war. I don’t mean to depress you but I mention all this because with everything going on you would think that the three major networks could easily fill their respective half hour news shows each night, right? Well apparently not.

Yes the news anchors do briefly mention most of the major headlines of the day but after the first fifteen minutes of news they then announce something along the lines of “Coming up next is part 8 of our 15 part special on bridges in America – are they falling down or not”? OK so that is somewhat important but isn’t that better suited to Dateline or Primetime or some other cable news show? Isn’t there more than enough hard news in a given day to fill up a half hour?

Maybe it is cheaper to do those “stories” but then the networks wonder why they are losing viewers. Gee. Maybe it’s because you don’t do real news anymore during the evening news! And while I am at it, how come they never tell us what is happening elsewhere in the world? Oh sure, they are quick to do stories on how dumb Americans are and how most don’t even know the name of Canada’s Prime Minister. But they never tell us what is going on elsewhere unless it is famine or disaster in a third world or if it is something bad caused by America. They supposedly have all these foreign correspondents so what do they do all day? Make them earn their pay and actually report on stuff! Or bring them back here and send them to someplace other than DC, New York City and LA – now that really would be foreign territory to those elitist newsmen and women!

Sure there are the 24-7 cable news channels but even they aren’t any help at times. During prime time all the cable news channels have their own “shows”; Larry King, Bill O’Reilly, Nancy Grace etc. so there aren’t any up-to-date “live” news available. Then there have been times I can’t sleep and I would turn on the TV and figure watching news would put me back to sleep. Wrong. All these “news” cable stations repeat their earlier shows over and over again all night long. So after about 8pm eastern time you can’t find any real news until the next morning! I’m afraid that eventually the cable “news” shows will become like the cable “music” channels where you can no longer find any music videos on MTV or VH1.

With daily newspapers quickly disappearing it makes me wonder where people are getting their news. Even the weekly news magazines are starting to fold. The thought that people are becoming less and less informed about everything is a scary idea. I can only hope that the internet is filling in the gap and people are getting their news and informing themselves by going on-line. Yeah right. When one of the top words googled is Britney Spears I am not comforted by that thought. Then again, perhaps the lack of news and educated people explains the results of the recent election!

Chicago Shenanigans

The more I hear about the Illinois scandal the more I can see how it all happened. The Governor can give the vacant Senator’s seat to anyone and for any reason. He is given absolute power to pick whomever he likes so perhaps it is no wonder that this led to corruption and felony arrests. Think about it. I assumer that there are a number of men and women who are qualified for the job and probably more who aren’t but would still like that prestigious title of Senator. So who should he give it to and how does he decide who gets it?

At some point I can see where he might think that the Senator’s seat is “a f*ing valuable thing, you just don’t give it away”. Whoever he chooses to be Senator will make a lot of money not to mention have a lot of power. Apparently he even thought of appointing himself so he could grab it all. Instead he begins to wonder why not get some of the money now by selling the Senator’s seat to the highest bidder.

What really gets to me are all the politicians who are expressing outrage and horror at what Gov. Blagojevich has said. Yeah right. Like politicians have never sold their favors to somebody before. I was going to say that this is just bigger in scope then the usual political job given to somebody with deep pockets or rich relatives until I thought of all the Ambassadorships and even Cabinet posts given to big contributors. What hypocrites!

The real crime committed by the Illinois Governor is that he not only talked out loud but even bragged about his intentions and then got caught. Actually he should be arrested if for no other reason than for being a complete idiot. If only he had kept his mouth shut he probably could have made a small fortune by quietly selling off the Senator’s seat with everyone looking the other way. I can’t help but think about that epitome of Chicago corruption, old Mayor Daley. Oh how he must be spinning in his grave at the ineptitude of the current crop of sleazy Illinois politicians!

Yes I Can

“Yes We Can”. Three little words that are synonymous with our next President. “Yes We Can” is empowering and brings to mind Obama’s messages of hope and change. These three little words created a tidal wave of popular support which swept aside the Democrats and Republicans alike and ushered in the first African American president. A brilliant slogan that will now go down in our history books as a phrase that brought a new era to America. All because a black man stood up and proclaimed to the world “Yes We Can”. The right time, the right place, the right man and most of all, the right words. “Yes We Can”.

Oh how brave, how powerful for a black man to stand up and proclaim “Yes We Can”. Only Obama could have done this, right? Well, wrong actually. Long before Barack Obama there was another black man who faced a different world.

“Yes We Can” is empowering but what is Barack standing up against? In comparison to this other man, Obama knows nothing about discrimination or hard knocks. Unlike Barack Obama, this man never even went to grade school, much less private high schools, college and an Ivy League law school. While Barack traveled the country he stayed in presidential suites while fifty years ago this other black man was turned away again and again from hotels and restaurants, even when his name was on their billboards. The KKK vilified this man for marrying a white woman whereas no one cared that Obama was the product of a biracial marriage. Today Obama is our next president whereas I am not sure if it is ironic or simply sad that the epitome of 1960’s liberalism, President Kennedy, was afraid of the public opinion if he invited this black man to the White House for his inauguration.

Unlike Barack Obama, this African American had every reason to stand tall and proud and to loudly state “Yes I Can”. And that is exactly what Sammy Davis Jr. did when he called his autobiography “Yes I Can”. Did you know that? Did anybody ever bring up the fact that Obama’s brilliant slogan had been used once before by another black man? Did Obama ever acknowledge all that Sammy Davis Jr. did to demolish racial divides much less provide the slogan that took him to the presidency?

I’ve tried googling the two names but other than a few articles saying Obama is tap dancing like Sammy I have yet to find any mention of Sammy by Obama. But perhaps to blacks today he doesn’t count because he never threw a bomb or damned this country and actually meant it when he said he wanted peace.

If you want to learn how a great African American became a true superstar amidst some of the most brutal discrimination ever seen in this country then put aside those Obama books and read Sammy Davis Jr.’s autobiography of a man who had the right to stand up and declare “Yes I Can.”

Greed Is Still Good

I recently saw a number of articles which all had the same theme –America’s economic problems are partly caused by greed – that people are too materialistic, spend too much money, buy things they don’t need and are still trying to keep up with the Jones’s. My first reaction was “Damn right!”. You bet we want more. That is who we are and what made America so great and we should stop being ashamed of it.

People have been brainwashed into believing that wealth is bad and that the wealthier the person (or business) the more evil they are. Yes there are some corrupt rich people but there are an equal number, if not more, corrupt poor people, it’s just that you don’t hear about them in the evening news. People are also told that it is wrong to want more and that they should be satisfied with what they have. Of course you should be grateful for what you have but there is nothing wrong with wanting more money, more goods. I would even argue the opposite; that it is wrong not to aspire for a better life. In fact I believe that this need for more is hard wired into our genes, it is what separates men from beasts and without it we would be living in a very different world.

People laughed at President Bush for once asking everyone to support the war by shopping but he wasn’t that far off from the truth. Think about it. What if everybody decided they were satisfied with what they had and stopped buying? You think the economy is bad now just imagine what it would happen if starting January 1 the stores were empty of customers. Imagine the impact of closing just one clothes store; first the store’s employees would be out of work which would hurt their town’s economy as these unemployed people would stop buying things and perhaps even default on their mortgages, the truckers used to haul the clothes would be the next to hit unemployment, then add in the thousands of people needed to make the clothes plus the companies who produce the material, sewing machines etc etc who all would now be out of work. This hasn’t even taken into account the stock market which is easily affected by a company’s downward trend and all the stockholders, pension funds, 401k’s etc. which would be impacted and lose their life savings. And all because you decided not to buy that new jacket.

Greed not only keeps our economy going but it also has been the main motive for man improving himself and his world. It is our desire for better, faster and more improved products that has fueled mankind’s innovations, experiments, and progress and took us from caves to the moon. People don’t realize just how much they benefit from somebody else’s greed. Think about it. Everything you touch is the result of somebody coming up with a better way of making that object or because somebody figured out a way to make more money producing it. In either case greed is the dominant factor: I want a better product or I want to make more money producing this product, or both.

If you think that you are not greedy then you are either a hypocrite or a saint. And disguised in this contempt for greed is the liberal’s need to “equalize” the world by making the poor wealthier and the wealthy poorer. But that is a discussion for another day. As for our current problems, if you really want to turn the economy around then we all need to stand up and loudly proclaim the famous line from Oliver Twist “Please sir, I want some more.”
